Declarations of War!
While
American and Japanese diplomats are negotiating an end to American embargos of
oil, steal and coal the Japanese military secretly plans a surprise attack on
the United States. On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941 Japanese dive bombers,
torpedo and fighter planes bomb Pearl Harbor, a strategic military base on the
Pacific Island of Hawaii. On December 8, 1941, President Roosevelt requests and
receives the authority from the United States Congress to declare war on Japan.
On December 11, 1941 to show solidarity with Japan, Hitler declares war on the
United States. These declarations of war officially enter the United States into the war in Europe.
